The 6X9′s on the package tray are nestled under the speaker cloth of the custom package tray and are invisible to the nosey. We also use speakers under the dash panels up front.
This is becoming a common installation with my cars. You want a vintage car and a vintage feel to things, but vintage radios and sound equipment sound so bad and cost so much that you wonder what to do.
This setup utilizes a vintage ‘dummy’ radio–a Becker Europa in this case–combined with a modern and hidden radio unit controlled with a remote. Little sensor on the dash controls the hidden radio. Also allows iPod and XM/Sirius applications. When combined with the hidden speakers on the package tray you have the perfect stealth ‘tunes’ setup. We like it.
